She has five children and six grandchildren. Flip is quoted as saying, "all of my children would love to achieve a certain level in their chosen careers to be able to return to Charlottesville and raise their children. There is a quality of life and diversity in Charlottesville that cannot be equaled. They were all fortunate enough to have enjoyed that and wish the same for their families." As a mother and grandmother, she does, too.
